BaZi

Free BaZi chart calculator

Your birth date, time and place become four pillars. This page computes the full chart — day master, five elements, ten gods, hidden stems, luck cycles — and shows every rule it applied, so the result can be checked rather than trusted.

Your birth details

The month and hour pillars depend on solar terms, not on calendar months, so the time and place matter.

The chart is still built with 12:00. The hour pillar is then a placeholder, and the page says so in the result.

When the day changes

Your birth details are sent to this site's own calculation endpoint and are not stored, not written to analytics, and not put in the URL.

The chart is produced by traditional rules, not by evidence that they describe a person. It makes no prediction and is not a substitute for medical, legal or financial advice.

What to look at first

01

Find the day master

The day stem is the one character every other reading is measured against. Start there, not with the animal sign.

02

Count the five elements

What is present and what is absent is a balance question, not a verdict. A missing element is not automatically a problem.

03

Read the ten gods as relations

Each ten god names how one element stands to the day master. The same god can be helpful or awkward depending on the rest of the chart.

04

Put the chart in time

Luck pillars and annual cycles are how the tradition talks about change. Read them against the natal chart, never on their own.

What this calculator returns

Each field below is computed, not typed in.

  • Four pillarsYear, month, day and hour, each a stem above a branch.

The year changes at 立春, not on 1 January, and the month changes at one of twelve solar terms. That is why the same birthday can produce different month pillars depending on the hour and the year's term times.

    Four pillars →
  • Day masterThe day stem, used as the reference for the whole chart.

Every other stem is described relative to it through the ten gods. The day master itself carries no ten god — it is the zero point.

    Day master →
  • Ten godsTen named relations between the day master and every other stem.

They are not deities and not personality types. Each one is a fixed relation of element and polarity, which is why the same character can mean different things in two charts.

    Ten gods →
  • Hidden stemsOne to three stems stored inside each branch.

Hidden stems are why two charts with identical visible characters still read differently. The primary hidden stem is the one used for the branch-level ten god.

    Hidden stems →
  • Luck pillarsTen-year cycles that carry the chart through time.

They start from the month pillar and run forward or backward depending on gender and the polarity of the year stem. The starting age comes from the distance to the neighbouring solar term — three days to one year.

    Luck pillars →
  • Annual cyclesThe stem and branch of each coming year, read against the natal chart.

An annual pillar is only meaningful next to the natal chart and the active luck pillar. Reading one alone is the most common way this method gets misused.

FAQ

What is a BaZi chart?

Four pairs of characters — a heavenly stem above an earthly branch — derived from the year, month, day and hour of birth. Traditional reading describes relations between those eight characters; it does not describe a fixed personality.

What information do I need for a free BaZi chart?

Date, time and place of birth, plus the time zone that applied then. The place matters for the hour pillar because of longitude and true solar time.

What if I do not know my birth time?

The chart is still built, with 12:00 substituted. The hour pillar is then unreliable and the page says so. Year, month and day pillars are unaffected, so most of the chart still stands.

Why do different sites give different charts for the same birth?

Usually one of four things: the solar term times used, whether true solar time was applied, the rule for when the day changes at 23:00, or how the luck cycle start is counted. This page prints all four so a difference can be traced.

What is the day master?

The stem of the day pillar. It is the reference point for the ten gods and for most interpretive statements in the tradition.

What are the ten gods?

Ten fixed relations between the day master and another stem, defined by the five-element cycle and polarity. They are terminology, not deities.

How is the starting age of a luck cycle calculated?

By counting the days from birth to the neighbouring solar term and converting three days to one year. Some schools round differently, which shifts the start by a few months.

How is BaZi different from Zi Wei Dou Shu?

BaZi reads eight characters and their relations; Zi Wei Dou Shu places stars into twelve palaces. They use the same birth details but different chart structures, and neither validates the other.
